Flora Street Apartments, Arncliffe, NSW

This 8 storey apartment building resides within the Bayside Council area. It consists 42 units and two levels of basement car parking.

The character of the building is defined by a North South slot dividing the building into two.

Each facade is characterised by rotating concrete columns that create texture from the play of light and shadow. The mass of these columns define the balcony's as outdoor rooms, sufficiently wide enough to allow services to be hidden, and activities behind to be discreet. There is a simple clear legibility that is created by a restrained material selection of off-concrete slab edges, columns and white painted in fill panels. Together these elements describe the way the building is constructed in a very direct way. It is a sense of both the old and new in its character that gives this project an enduring quality.
